Isaac Hayes was an incredibly talented soul and funk singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, arranger, composer, and actor. He is mostly famous for creating the music of "Shaft" for which he earned an academy award for Best Original Song (the first Academy Award received by an African-American in a non-acting category). He also receive three Grammy Awards.
The younger generations will most likely know him from South Park, where he played "Chef".
At the time of his death, Hayes was working as an actor on new movie called Soul Men, which included actor Samuel L. Jackson and comedian Bernie Mac (who, ironically, died the day before Hayes).
