Prince dazzled fans with a two-hour performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival and then showed up at 3 a.m. to jam with his band at a late-night jazz cafe, the Swiss news agency ATS reported on Tuesday.
Prince was a surprise guest at the 41st edition of the annual festival, selling out all 4,500 tickets in 10 minutes when his appearance was announced two weeks ago.
Dressed in a red suit, black glasses and black hat, he refused to allow any photographs or filming during his Monday night concert at the Stravinski Auditorium, which was bathed in purple light.
Only Bob Dylan and Keith Jarrett have succeeded in imposing such strict conditions at Montreux, where festival founder Claude Nobs has wooed the diminutive musician for years, according to ATS.
He sang hits including "Purple Rain" and "Nothing Compares 2 U", as well as the Beatles' "Come Together" and Grammy-winning "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley.
Here's a pretty bad quality video of last night's concert, however I was lucky to find anything at all given that no one was allowed to film or take pictures. At least you'll get a vibe of what it was like!
