Michael Jackson would have turned 51 today, and in honor of his birthday Spike Lee is organizing an event in Brooklyn which will draw more than 10,000 fans at the Nethermead meadow in Prospect Park. The event is free and it will run from noon until 5pm.
Brooklyn's borough president, Marty Markowitz will be presenting a proclamation during the event, declaring August 29th Michael Jackson Day in Brooklyn. Al Sharpton will make a speach and a prayer, and DJ Spinna who collaborated on "They Don’t Care About Us" will unleash hits from MJ's career.
Councilwoman Letitia James of Brooklyn will also be present at the event as she suggested that the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station be renamed or co-named after Michael Jackson, as it was the scene for the 1987 video "Bad".
